THE RUM DIARY has been a loooong time coming – it was shot back in 2009 while development began long before that – but we’re now finally seeing the best sign of life: a trailer!

Based on one of the early but only recently published novels by Hunter S. Thompson (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas), the film adaptation brings on Johnny Depp as freelance journalist ‘Paul Kemp’ – a sort of Thompson analogue – as he searches for a story out in the Caribbean (sans pirates) while encountering interesting characters in the forms of Amber Heard, Aaron Eckhart, Richard Jenkins, and Giovanni Ribisi.

THE RUM DIARY opens October 28th.

Synopsis: Paul Kemp (Johnny Depp) is a freelance journalist who finds himself at a critical turning point in his life while writing for a run-down newspaper in the Caribbean. Paul is challenged on many levels as he tries to carve out a more secure niche for himself amidst a group of lost souls all bent on self-destruction.
