Josh Brolin & Benicio Del Toro lead gripping, violent Soldado trailer

SICARIO was one of the breakout critical hits of 2015, giving Denis Villeneuve another impressive film on his resume before ARRIVAL and BLADE RUNNER 2049, and made screenwriter Taylor Sheridan a household name. This the last movie we thought would get a sequel, but now we’re here with the first trailer for SICARIO 2: SOLDADO, which follows Josh Brolin’s Matt Graver and Benicio Del Toro’s Alejandro Gillick as they hunt down terrorists being smuggled over into the US from the southern border. Villeneuve and Emily Blunt sat out this round, but the movie looks just as gripping and intense and does not shy away from teases excessive violence.

Sheridan, who wrote the sequel, says this film makes the first look like a comedy, as the drug has escalated to include terrorist smuggling. The movie certainly looks more brutal than SICARIO, and it looks like director Stefano Sollima has made a film worthy of the original, at least at first glance. SICARIO will be a tough act to follow, but it sounds like the characters are more complex this time around, and the drug war always makes for riveting material.

SICARIO 2: SOLDADO arrives June 29, 2018.
