The last we heard about Showtime's upcoming series was that they hired Juan Antonio Bayona (THE ORPHANAGE) to direct the first two episodes of "Penny Dreadful". Now, we've got some casting news to throw your way! Today it was confirmed that both Eva Green and Josh Hartnett are set to play the leading roles in the show. Hartnett will take on the role of Ethan Chandler, a charming American who finds himself trapped in the darkest corners of Victorian London, while Green will play Vanessa Ives, a seductive and formidable beauty full of secrets and danger — I can get on board with that! A couple of great choices here. The gorgeous Eva Green is always fun to watch and we haven't seen Hartnett around lately so this could be a great return for him. Things are looking up!

The series draws from famous works of literature, posing that some of the most terrifying protagonists — Dr. Frankenstein and his creature, Dorian Gray, Dracula’s Van Helsing and more — come together in Victorian London.

"Penny Dreadful" was written and executive produced by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan and executive produced by Logan's Desert Wolf Productions, along with Oscar winner Sam Mendes and Neal Street's Pippa Harris. The Show will have 8 episodes and will start shooting this fall in London and will air in 2014.
