Joss Whedon lent a helping hand with Thor: The Dark World

Everyone needs a little help from time to time when it comes to a screenplay. A particular script can go through a hand full of writers at a time until the product desired is achieved. So if you’re having problems with a comic script, who do you call? Well I can think of several people off the top of my head but the guy that might be at the number one spot is Joss Whedon.

Part of Whedon’s three year deal with Marvel also meant that he should help those in need if necessary, those with comic book films anyway. Alan Taylor director of THOR: THE DARK WORLD said that they had to use Whedon has a life line on more than one occasion, “Joss came in to save our lives a couple of times. We had a major scene that was not working on the page at all in London, and he basically got airlifted in, like a SWAT team or something. He came down, rewrote the scene, and before he got back to his plane I sort of grabbed him and said, ‘And this scene and this scene?’ And he rewrote two other scenes that I thought had problems.”

Taylor said the revisions, “were just much better and much lighter on their feet” than the earlier versions. They were apparently “much more fun, much more surprising than what we had been trying to do.”

Thankfully, Whedon and Taylor were on the same page since they were TV brethren and all, “I can relate to guys who come out of the TV world, since that’s where I come from. Being able to land and work and solve a problem quickly … I really was grateful.”

Taylor is perfectly capable but since this is his first adventure into comic territory there’s nothing wrong with getting a little help/advice. Whedon is definitely a good guy to get it from.
