Despite having nothing new on the Marvel slate until May (BIG HERO 6 aside), it's been an exciting couple of weeks for Marvel fans, given the updated slate of films that uber-producer Kevin Fiege and Co. have in store for us. To add fuel to the excitement fire, Idris Elba let slip that the characters of Heimdall and Loki have a part to play in the upcoming AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. With the Avengers line-up inevitably changing by the film's end, Joss Whedon recently spoke out regarding said spoilers and how he's taking all the fan's reactions so far.

Whether or not Idris Elba was reprimanded for spilling the beans:

Um, should he receive an email from me, there might be an attitude of scold. Yeah, when you have a cast of 19,000 people, inevitably, once every month, you pick up [a story] and you're like, "Awww."

Whedon's thoughts on the newly-unveiled Marvel slate:

You know, it is a little daunting, and you sort of go, "What about my movie? I haven't even been born and you already like my younger siblings better?" But at the same time it's exhilarating. It's really fun to see where Kevin's taking it and to see the workings of that mind. I think it was a very canny and very human move, I really like the slate.

How Whedon takes fan criticism/reaction:

Sometimes it's depressing, sometimes it's enlightening. Every now and then, you definitely learn something from some random person on the internet who sees your work in a way you didn't, who sees truth in it, that's worth it.

There's been talk of the Russo brothers stepping up to work on the next Avengers film, but if that's the case, I do hope that Whedon stays on with Marvel in some creative role. The first Avengers wasn't my favorite comic book film, but Whedon successfully brought all the superheros together and delivered an entertaining film that left few (if any) fans disappointed. That's truly an amazing feat! While I'd understand if the man was weary from working on these huge blockbusters, I selfishly hope he'll continue to do so.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON will hopefully fulfill expectations come May 1, 2015.
