Jovovich talks RE4

If you’re like me, your reaction to the news of another RESIDENT EVIL was something along the lines of “really?” To help explain the “why” of it, ShockTillYouDrop recently got a hold of ass-kicking beauty Milla Jovovich and asked her a few questions about RESIDENT EVIL 4, or RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE as we seem to be calling it these days. The film is in 3D and should be out about a year from now in September 2010. So why make a fourth film when a trilogy was probably more than enough? Milla candidly explains the situation for those of us who don’t understand just how sequels get made:

“The movie makes money. If it makes more money than the last one, you’d think that people want to see another one, so we’ll do another one. There’s been a lot of interest online, there’s been a lot of letters from fans… film company. It’s not like I said, ‘Hey, honey! Let’s do another one right away!’ I mean, it’s an expensive film and it’s all business and if the third one didn’t do well, there wouldn’t be another one.”

So if you were expecting a rationale like “I’m just so in love with the character of Alice” or “We just felt we had more story to tell,” you’re out of luck; AFTERLIFE is all about the cold hard cash. Even though some die hard fans got the film greenlighted via letter writing campaigns, it remains to be seen whether the RE fan base turns out in droves to prove a fourth film was worth making.
