You think every kind of werewolf movie has been done before? Well, try these boots on for size: a prehistoric regenerated werewolf! This new b-horror flick is called DIRE WOLF and it is clawing our way courtesy of Fred Olen Ray, the man behind the likes of HOLLYWOOD CHAINSAW HOOKERS and EVIL TOONS. You may be asking yourself, what the f*ck is up with that title? Allow me to learn you why:
A dire wolf is an extinct breed of carnivorous wolf native to prehistoric North America. I didn’t know this either and had to look it up. Now, you also may be thinking that this flick will be taking place in the past with a bunch of cavemen fighting off the beast. While that may seem like a cool idea, this WOLF actually takes place in modern time. Then where does the dire wolf come from? may be your latest query. Before I give you the answer within the flick’s plot, let me just say two words: JURASSIC PARK. Now here’s the plot:
Scientists regenerate a dire wolf from a nearly fossilized skeleton using human stem cells. The results prove even direr than anticipated as the human-dire wolf hybrid beast they give to birth to breaks loose and terrorizes the small nearby mountain village of Santa Mira Springs.
Sounds like there’s gonna be a lot of room for some spurting geysers of red stuff! The pic up top should confirm so as does the trailer for the flick, which you can check out right here. I’m happy to say that the WOLF is not CGI and actually looks pretty menacing. The cast that makes up Santa Mira Springs includes Maxwell Caulfield, Gil Gerard, Ted Monte, Ian Patrick Williams, Angela Duffy, Marc Joseph, Joe Gerety, Blake Griffin, and Gina Scoles (below, in a pic from the flick).
