Jurassic World: Dominion wraps production after lengthy pandemic delays

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION, the sixth film in the JURASSIC PARK franchise, was four weeks into a twenty-week production schedule when filming had to be put on hold due to the pandemic – a delay that lasted around four months. When filming resumed, it took 6 to 8 million dollars worth of safety protocols to get the project through the remaining weeks of shooting, with cast and crew taking a total of more than 40,000 COVID-19 tests during that time. There were around 100 positive test results along the way (some of them false positives), which did result in filming having to shut down for another two weeks last month… but now DOMINION has finally completed production.

Fittingly, the last day of shooting involved returning franchise stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Chris Pratt, and Bryce Dallas Howard, along with some dinosaurs – as well as franchise newcomers Mamoudou Athie and DeWanda Wise, actors who Deadline hears "could have a big role" in future JURASSIC sequels.

Deadline also listed the safety measures that were taken to keep the cast and crew as COVID-free as possible:

Universal commissioned a private medical facility called Your Doctor to manage the entire production’s medical requirements. Testing was the backbone of the safety measures. … The studio set up a policed ‘Greenzone’ for the shooting cast and crew and all workers were temperature-tested every day. Two walk-through temperature testing stations were built at each end of Pinewood Studios with capacity of 1,000 crew over two hours, and each test station had a compliment of doctors, nurses and isolation booths.

There were more than 1,800 COVID-related signs across Pinewood, 150 hand sanitizer stations and 60 extra sinks. Cleaning was doubled and in the evenings all communal areas and facilities were antiviral fogged.

(Safety measures also) included the cast and crew creating a bubble at a UK hotel.

Directed by Colin Trevorrow from a screenplay he wrote with Emily Carmichael (based on an idea Trevorrow crafted with his JURASSIC WORLD and JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM co-writer Derek Connolly), JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION stars, in addition to the actors already named, Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy, Scott Haze, Campbell Scott, and Dichen Lachman.

An official synopsis for the film has not been released, but it will be dealing with the fact that dinosaurs were set loose on mainland North America at the end of FALLEN KINGDOM.

A collaboration between Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment, DOMINION was executive produced by Trevorrow and Steven Spielberg, with Frank Marshall producing alongside Pat Crowley. Sara Scott, senior vice president of production at Universal, oversaw the project for the studio.

The film is scheduled to reach theatres on June 10, 2022.
