It looks like Warner Bros. is starting to hedge their bets and try to scale back JUSTICE LEAGUE a bit. Where THE AVENGERS had the benefit of films leading into their super-team tentpole, DC has a lot more work to do. So, with that in mind, the studio has decided to truncate the JUSTICE LEAGUE and introduce only five heroes to the squad, according to Latino Review.
Those five heroes will be Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and The Flash. Now, this is not surprising since the core members are all accounted for. In fact, I think DC has made a brilliant move here. As MAN OF STEEL will be the only movie to launch the DC Cinematic Universe, it will be easier to not overload audiences with a ton of origin stories. So, MAN OF STEEL introduces Superman and possibly Wonder Woman if rumors hold true. Batman is easy enough to just drop in without having to do an origin story. Green Lantern, if the studio plays it safe, can be Ryan Reynolds again or another actor taking over the same Hal Jordan role. I think despite not being a box office success, DC and WB can just use the already introduced back story in GREEN LANTERN because explaining that entire thing again will drag the pace of JUSTICE LEAGUE to a halt. That means they can use The Flash as the origin that leads him to the other heroes and therefore the formation of the team.
Of course, that is all my own rambling insanity. I think leaving characters like Aquaman, Hawkman and Martian Manhunter off for a future movie would make the most sense. That also gives DC some ammunition to bring these additional comic figures in the stand alone movies to follow JUSTICE LEAGUE.Either way, 2015 is fast approaching so casting has got to get underway soon.
