Romeo and Juliet, Kaitlyn Dever, Rosaline

I think it's fair to say that William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet has been adapted to other mediums more than a few times over the years, but hey, let's add another to the pile. Deadline has reported that Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart) is slated to star in Rosaline for 20th Century Studios, which is said to be a revisionist take on the classic play based on the novel When You Were Mine by Rebecca Serle.

The film will give a modern twist to "the most famous love story ever told" as it will focus on Juliet's cousin Rosaline, "a sharp but idealistic young woman—who happens to be Romeo’s recent ex. What begins as an attempt to foil the famous romance and win back her guy becomes a journey of self-discovery as she ultimately works to help get the star-crossed lovers back together." I've got to say, as Romeo & Juliet adaptations go, I'm not mad at that. Rosaline is slated to be directed by Karen Maine (Yes God, Yes) from a script by Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber ((500) Days of Summer).

I first saw Kaitlyn Dever as Loretta McCready in Justified and was absolutely blown away by her performance, so it's been a thrill to see her career develop over the years. Dever was recently seen in Unbelievable, a Netflix limited-series for which she earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress. She's currently shooting Dopesick, a limited-series for Hulu that focuses on "the epicenter of America's struggle with Opioid addiction" across the U.S. The series also stars Michael Keaton, Peter Sarsgaard, Will Poutler, Rosario Dawson, Michael Stuhlbarg, and more. Dever will next be seen in Stephen Chbosky's Dear Evan Hanson, which is set to hit theaters on September 24, 2021.
