Karl Urban on a sequel to Dredd 3D: “It’s entirely possible.”

Dredd

It's a shame that DREDD 3D bombed has hard as it did in theaters but the truth is it was always going to be difficult for the film to shake off the stink left behind from the 1995 Sylvester Stallone movie. Sure us comic and movie geeks were pretty psyched for DREDD 3D but most people still associated it with the Stallone film and figured it would be just as bad.

But DREDD 3D has done very well with Blu-Ray and DVD sales and there have been some talks of another film, although as recently as March producer Adi Shankar said that a sequel probably wasn't going to happen. DREDD 3D star Karl Urban has been doing interviews promoting some indie movie no one has ever heard of called STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS and in a conversation with Collider they asked the actor if there was a chance he would return for a sequel to DREDD 3D. His response:

Interestingly enough, I did have breakfast with Alex Garland this morning.  It’s not off the agenda.  Clearly everyone has woken up to the fact that an audience has found this movie and loves it.  It’s entirely possible, and if people want to see another installment then they should be vocal about that, because, it can happen.  The power of fandom can resurrect projects.  In fact, that’s what happened with Star Trek.  They weren’t going to do a third season until fans did a letter writing campaign and they continued that series.

So hardcore DREDD 3D fans: if you want a sequel you need to make your presence known. While I wasn't one of those people that thought DREDD 3D was the greatest action movie of all time I still thought it was a ton of fun and incredibly brutal. I'd only want to see a sequel if Karl Urban returns as Judge Dredd but it sounds like Urban would love to have another go as the futuristic lawman. While this isn't confirmation that a sequel will definitely happen at least there's a chance we'll be seeing Judge Dredd patrolling the streets of Mega City Once once again.
