Back in 1987, Gary Walkow’s The Trouble With Dick won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. It’s a strange little film about a Sci-FI Author and his trouble writing a novel. Now, nearly 40 years later, Walkow is returning to the world in a very abstract way, and Frasier star Kelsey Grammer is along for the ride. I always love it when an actor gets spotlighted in an indie film, and Lars Shrike Walk The Night is the perfect vehicle for Grammer. It’s weird, abstract in nature, and much more of a character piece than anything else. I certainly recommend it for anyone looking for something outside of the box.
Kelsey and I chatted earlier this week about the film and why he was willing to join such a small project. He also gets into what it was like to essentially wear pajamas the entire shoot, despite it taking place in the very cold desert at night. And yes, Kelsey does talk a little about Avengers: Doomsday. No, he hasn’t seen the trailer, but he gives some fun insight into how he kind of missed being in prosthetics this time around. He also tells a funny story of how he first saw his Marvels cameo. “Lars Shrike (Grammer) knows only two things: his name, and that he has escaped. Alone in a hostile desert landscape, he struggles to piece together who he is, where he came from, and what exactly he has fled. As fragments of memory, hallucination, and reality begin to blur, Shrike is pulled into an increasingly strange odyssey where every answer only deepens the mystery. Is he a prisoner on the run, a damaged mind inventing its own mythology, or a fictional character who has somehow stepped into the real world?”
