Matthew Vaughn is really starting to turn heads with his upcoming flick KICK-ASS, which took some hard work to even get started. Now it seems like every average joe out there is stoked for this shite. But I’m not here today to talk about KICK-ASS, oh no. I’m here to tell you all about the project Vaughn could be working on soon: TURF.
Now before I inform you all about TURF, let me tell you guys where this is coming from. You see, Jane Goldman and Vaughn co-wrote KICK-ASS together. Mrs. Goldman is married to UK radio presenter/film critic Jonathan Ross. Well Mr. Ross recently sat down with the guys over at Guardian.co.uk and apparently let loose that one of Vaughn’s next projects will be TURF, which is a comic created by Ross and Tommy Lee Edwards. Still with me here? Good. Here’s the bit from Guardian:
Together the pair have created their very own comic, Turf, written by Ross and illustrated by Edwards. Set in 1920s prohibition-era New York, it’s a high-velocity romp involving gangsters, vampires and aliens; issue one went on sale this week and is already on its second print run, the first 20,000 copies having sold out on pre-orders alone. There will be five further issues, a hardback collection and – if all goes to plan – a Turf movie made by Matthew Vaughn, the producer of Ross’s wife’s current hit comic-book film Kick-Ass. For Ross, a comics obsessive ever since falling in love with them as a “shy, geeky, half-blind 11-year-old”, it’s the fulfilment of a lifelong dream – which is why, he explains, he is breaking his silence to talk about Turf.
So take from that what you will. To check out the whole interview, which includes Ross talking a bit more about his love for comics, head right over HERE. Now let me hit you all with the details on TURF:
TURF offers a twist on the hard boiled crime thriller, adds vampires and aliens to the traditional mix of booze, broads and bullets as it chronicles the eruption of a vengeful gang war between booze-smuggling mobsters and the blood thirsty Dragonmir Family. As an ancient prophecy unfolds amidst the maelstrom of violence, the entire city is engulfed by the brutal conflict and the only glimmer of hope is an unlikely alliance between tough guy Eddie Falco and a stranger from another world.
Sounds… something, right? I can’t put my finger on what it sounds like… but all I know is I’d definitely check out a flick about this shite! What says you guys? Vampires, aliens and the mafia? How can you possibly go wrong!? Now before we get too excited, I’d point out that this isn’t really an official confirmation that Vaughn is attached to this. ‘All goes to plan’ … know what that means? This thing could fall apart tomorrow.
So before we start dreaming about vampire mafia alien hunters let’s chill out a minute and wait for some official word on all of this.
