Killer Killer sounds familiar familiar

I know, bad title; so sue me!

I’ve just stumbled upon a film that has a very familiar sounding plot line
behind it, and Fangoria has reported it

here
.
The film is called KILLER KILLER and is directed by British Cult classic
writer/director Pat Higgins. But for some reason it seems
to me that this film echoes Stephen King’s THE MIST an awful lot. You decide!

The synopsis reads :“Convicted
murderers in a high security prison wake one morning to find that the guards
have all gone, the doors are unlocked and the place looks ‘sick.’ But they can’t
leave because there’s a mist, and it bites. It’s not long before the inmates
start getting bumped off, but is it one of them doing it or is it someone else?
The inmates are just dying to find out.”

Now I’m aware that in King’s story
the people are trapped in the grocery store, but this just seems to me like a
much more violent rip-off. Hopefully I’m wrong, and synopsis’ can be deceiving.
(I should know, I bought the movie LASERBLAST) No word yet on a release date but
according to the article he hopes to shop it around at festivals before looking
for a TV/DVD release in early 2007.
