Killing Eve, ending season 4

Season four of Killing Eve had been delayed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic but BBC America has announced that shooting is set to start filming this summer on what will now be its final season. Shooting will take place in the UK across Europe and the eight-episode final run will premiere in 2022.

The network did reveal that a number of potential spinoffs are in development but they didn't disclose specifics about what narrative they would follow. "Deadline" also reports that these spinoffs are not set in stone but they do seem pretty invested in extending the Killing Eve universe. What is likely is that the series' stars, Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, won't be leading their own standalone spinoff show. Dan McDermott, president of original programming for AMC Networks, which oversees the American distribution of the series, had this to say about the show's run and possible spinoffs:

"Killing Eve exploded in popular culture and attracted a dedicated and committed fan base from its very first episode. Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s brilliant adaptation of the source material, the unforgettable characters given life by Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, and the entire cast, along with our partners at Sid Gentle Films, have delivered a one-of-a-kind roller-coaster ride that has taken our breath away. We could not be more thankful for the extraordinary talents and efforts of everyone involved, particularly Sandra and Jodie, who made Killing Eve much more than a television show. We look forward to what is sure to be an unforgettable final season and to exploring potential extensions of this compelling universe."

Killing Eve is a British dark comedy-drama spy thriller that follows Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh), a British intelligence tasked with capturing psychopathic assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer). As the chase escalates, the two develop a mutual obsession with each other. The show is based on the "Villanelle" novel series and each of the show's seasons is led by a different female writer. Phoebe Waller-Bridge oversaw season one, while the creative mind behind Promising Young Woman, Emerald Fennell, took over for season two. Sex Education's Laura Neal will be the lead writer and executive producer for the fourth and final season.

Despite being a British-based production, the show has been highly successful in both the United States and the United Kingdom. The series has also received widespread critical acclaim with the writing and performances of Oh and Comer garnering high praise. Sandra Oh took home a Golden Globe Award in 2019 for Best Actress – Television Series Drama as well as a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series in 2020 for her role on the show. Jodie Comer also took home a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2019 for her efforts as well.
