Here’s an odd little story (about an odd little movie): Seems that Taurus Entertainment (the distribution house behind the brilliant CREEPSHOW 3 and DAY OF THE DEAD 2: CONTAGIUM) is getting prepared to sully the name of another George Romero classic – this time it’s KNIGHTRIDERS.
Yes, KNIGHTRIDERS 2 is on the way, budgeted at $1-3 million, according to Moviehole. No plot details are given, but I’m guessing it will be keeping in the “jousters on motorcycles” storyline of the first film, which came out 21 years ago.
KNIGHTRIDERS is maybe Romero’s most unseen flick, as it’s also his most unusual. Ed Harris plays “King Billy,” the King Arthur of a troupe of “knights” who put on motorcycle shows for local-yokel spectators. Thing of it is, Billy takes the whole business quite seriously, while his followers increasingly shun his leadership and consider selling-out with the help of a slimy agent… It’s not a film that always “works” – and it’s quite long at over two hours – but it’s generally entertaining, if not only for how unique it is.
