We’ve got a long wait before we see Ron Burgundy and the Channel 4 News Team grace the screen again, but thankfully that’s given director Adam McKay some time to line up more top tier talent for the ensemble sequel.  McKay confirmed via Twitter that Kristin Wiig has officially joined the cast of the upcoming sequel, which reunites Will Ferrell‘s Ron Burgundy with his team of accolytes, including Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), and  Champ Kind (David Koechner) for more misadventures in sunny San Diego (German for a whale’s vagina).

Although I’m a little leery of recent rumors that suggest there will be a “number” of musical sequences in the film (one or two is fine, but beyond that and it gets tedious). No word on who Wiig will be playing, but she’s been long-rumored to portray Brick Tamland’s wife, which should make for an interesting and hilarious dynamic. Regardless of what role she takes, her inclusion in the sequel makes it that much sweeter as Wiig simply rocks.

ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND CONTINUES releases the sex panther in theaters on December 20, 2013.
