La La Land director to re-team with Ryan Gosling for Neil Armstrong biopic

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

If you thought director Damien Chazelle (WHIPLASH, LA LA LAND) and Ryan Gosling made a good duo, then apparently you weren’t alone! According to The Wrap, the two will work together once again on a Neil Armstrong biopic entitled FIRST MAN. The film, scripted by Josh Singer (SPOTLIGHT) from the James R. Hansen novel, “First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong”, is said to follow Armstrong’s life from 1961 through ’69 and will be a “visceral, first-person account” of one of the “most dangerous mission in history.” Neat!

While I’ve yet to see LA LA LAND (workin’ on it, I swear!), I’ve heard nothing but great things regarding the acting and directing. That’s no surprise given what Chazelle did with WHIPLASH, although FIRST MAN sounds much more like the film I was expecting Chazelle to follow up WHIPLASH with. Gosling, on the other hand, is quickly becoming one of those actors who ends up working with a slew of great directors. Just over the past 5 years he’s worked with Derek Cianfrance, Nicolas Winding Refn, Adam McKay, Shane Black and Denis Villeneuve. I’m happy to see that his relationship with Chazelle is working out!

LA LA LAND is now playing in select theaters.
