Yes, what you see up top is indeed the first teaser poster for the indie haunted horror LAND OF CANAAN. Strange title. What you also may see is that former party princess, Tara Reid, can still garner top billing for a movie. You know, I’ve never been a big fan of hers, even before the bad boob job and three-year drunken hiatus (even though she is from Jersey). However, I will say this: at least she still had enough common sense to not get pregnant (unlike many others of her ilk). So I can give her some credit for that. Plus, CANAAN’s plot (speaking of pregnancies) actually sounds pretty decent:
After the goldfield hotel was built over an abandoned goldmine in 1908, the former owner George Winfield gets a young prostitute, Elizabeth pregnant, he chains her up in an old room, to a radiator. When she gives birth, the baby is thrown down an old mine shaft, and Elizabeth was left there to die. Cut to present, a group of friends, sneak into the abandoned hotel, to see if they can get any footage of any ‘hauntings’. But they start getting murdered one by one. Is the ghost of Elizabeth seeking revenge, or is someone taking a prank too far? What are you afraid of? In the Land of Canaan, trying to stay alive, will be the only mystery. Based on the true story of the murders and hauntings in the Goldfield Hotel in Nevada.
That just sounds like a cool, old-school horror ghost/slasher. And although the poster is a tad common, I still like the creepy vibe it’s going for. Perhaps this LAND could be worth visiting? I’m sure writer/director Reginald LaFrance hopes so. I like that in addition to Reid, he also cast bad ass Dwight Yoakam and cutie Juliet Landau (below). The flick is looking to release this December.
