Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac hopes you’ll lust after this new plot synopsis

Lars von Trier with Gainsbourg and Dunst

Lars von Trier is possibly the most divisive filmmaker working today, and if this plot synopsis is any indication he is well prepared to continue that trend.

NYMPHOMANIAC will tell “the wild and poetic story of a woman’s erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe.

On a cold winter’s evening the old, charming bachelor, Seligman, finds Joe beaten up in an alleyway. He brings her home to his flat where he tends to her wounds while asking her about her life. He listens intently as Joe over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-out and multi faceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents.”

NYMPHOMANIAC will be Charlotte Gainsbourg’s hat-trick with Trier after the duet of ANTICHRIST and MELANCHOLIA, while the Seligman to her Joe will be played by Stellen Skarsgard (also of MELANCHOLIA fame).  Trier is reportedly going to be crafting two cuts of his two-part film, with one being significantly more pornographic than the other.  As there’s no way I can really top that, I’ll stop talking now while you decide if Trier’s next is for you or not.
