Latest Ghostbusters TV spots feature more Stay Puft and a Lady Slimer

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

UPDATE: The Lady Slimer spot has been blocked by Sony, but we'll update this article again if/when they decide to let her loose on the internet.

We've long known that the green ghost Slimer would be one of the many iconic elements from the original 1984 GHOSTBUSTERS that would be worked into this summer's GHOSTBUSTERS reboot in some way. What we didn't know, or at least it was something that I was completely unaware of, is that director Paul Feig will also be giving Slimer something of a love interest in his film.

In one of the latest TV spots for the upcoming release, one appropriately dubbed "The Slimers", the last couple seconds shows Slimer behind the wheel of a vehicle, out on the town for a joy ride with his girlfriend (wife?) Lady (Mrs.?) Slimer.

This female Slimer is a very cartoonish-looking character, appearing very much like Slimer himself but with a bad makeup job and a blonde wig plopped atop her head.

Another unforgettable creature from GHOSTBUSTERS '84, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, gets a little more screen time in another new TV spot, "Ghost Problem". Stay Puft is not made out of marshmallow this time, rather he's a parade balloon that has been brought to life by the spirits that have overrun New York City, and this spot shows off one of the great dangers that comes with fighting a giant balloon.

Feig's team of Ghostbusters are played by Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. The story Feig crafted with Katie Dippold:

Dead criminals from all eras of New York’s underbelly past have returned to roost among the living in Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot. Pilgrims, old-timey sailors, Revolutionary War spirits, and even a couple of zoot-suited gangsters are ready to take on four formidable female busters looking to rid the city of its phantasmic filth.

GHOSTBUSTERS 2016 also stars Chris Hemsworth, Neil Casey, Andy Garcia, Michael K. Williams, Matt Walsh, Pat Kiernan, Cecily Strong, and Charles Dance, with cameos by Ozzy Osbourne and original GHOSTBUSTERS stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver.

The film will be in theatres on July 15th. Just over a week to go until the release of what may be this year's most controversial movie.
