It seems we’ve got a lot of genre TV to look forward to this Fall, no? Off the top of my head I can already peg “Dexter”, “The Walking Dead”, “The River” and “American Horror Story” as a few television series I’m personally looking forward to, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.
Of course early word on all the above mentioned shows is oozing with positivity but today I’m here to talk about the one that’s arguably on the thinnest ice – the second season of “The Walking Dead”. With an entire new writing crew and the subtraction of Frank Darabont, there’s really no telling how much Season 2 will differ from the first season of the epic AMC zombie drama.
What we do know is that director Ernest Dickerson will be back to helm a couple episodes for this go-around! We know this because he’s the latest name to lend some time to AMC’s Dispatches from the Set feature. So what kind of stuff did Dickerson touch upon in the interview? What it was like filming in Georgia, Alfred Hitchcock and what he would do in the event of a zombie apocalypse. That’s just a few of the things Dickerson talked about.
Q: You directed last season’s Episode 5, where Andrea had to kill the zombified Amy. Did anything compare to that intensity in these episodes?
A: I’m really proud of that scene because it was beautifully written and just working it out with Laurie Holden on how to play it worked out really well. I think we got some pretty good scenes this time also: We have a walker autopsy. When we were shooting it, I kept wondering if it’s gross enough. I can get pretty critical because I know what everything is, and that this is just plastic or rubber, so is it gross enough? I was actually trying to outdo the episode from last year where Rick and Glenn had to smear the zombie guts on themselves. [Laughs]
