True crime stories are a huge deal right now, and after the success of the SERIAL podcast, MAKING THE MURDERER on Netflix and THE PEOPLE V. O.J. SIMPSON: AMERICAN CRIME STORY, everyone wants a piece of that pie.

NBC had previously gone into development on a series that would revolve around the case of the Menendez brothers – who were tried for murdering their parents in the 90s and were one of the big staples of CourtTV's early days… and it appears they like what they've been able to put together. The network has officially order an 8-episode first season under the guise LAW & ORDER: TRUE CRIME – THE MENENDEZ MURDERS. That's certainly a mouthful.

Rene Balcer, a LAW & ORDER veteran, has been tapped as the showrunner.

I guess we're back to having multiple LAW & ORDERs on the air at any given time again. Oh, how I missed those days.
