Leatherface 3D starts in June, Takers director in official negotiations

About three weeks ago we relayed a rumor that had TAKERS director John Luessenhop in the running to helm LEATHERFACE 3D for Lionsgate. Well, word is the studio has slated a June start date for the production, and that Luessenhop is now in official negotiations to helm the picture. Who’s excited?

I for one am anything but. Not only is Tobe Hooper’s 1974 THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE my all-time favorite horror movie, I haven’t responded well to a single sequel to the title dating back 25 years (Dennis Hopper was pretty funny in part 2 though). Also, I haven’t seen TAKERS, but if the film was anywhere near as atrocious as the poster, I have zero faith this Luessenhop can get the job done. And don’t get me started on 3D, that shite’s played harder than Sheen’s stand up routine!

No casting info is yet known, but apparently Kirsten Elms has been brought in to polish script-work from Debra Sullivan, Adam Marcus and Stephen Susco. Likewise, plot details are currently sparse, with all we know being that the film will commence immediately following the events in the 1974 version before jumping ahead 35 years into the future.

So who’s with this? Anyone actually like the idea of a 3D Leatherface? How about this Luessenhop fella, he the right man for the job?
