Franchises like TRANSFORMERS demonstrate the enduring profitability of playthings coming to theaters. The world of Lego has already spilled from the toy aisle into the realm of videogames and other popular franchises (STAR WARS, INDIANA JONES, HARRY POTTER, etc.), and now the miniature construction blocks are getting their own movie built.
The Lego movie will come from the CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS team of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who will write and direct the story of colorful interlocking bricks. Dan Lin (SHERLOCK HOLMES) and Vertigo’s Roy Lee are producing the Warner Bros. project.
The movie will be a mix of live-action and animation, set in the Lego world.
Before putting together mountains of small components, the duo will be working on an update of the Johnny Depp undercover high-school cop show 21 JUMP STREET.
