It has been a while since we’ve heard any news on Leigh Whannell (SAW, INSIDIOUS) and his upcoming Blumhouse sci-fi horror flick STEM (now called UPGRADE). In fact the last word we heard was way back in January of last year when we let you guys know that GET OUT scene-stealer Betty Gabriel had joined the cast.
But today we have much bigger news in that not only will Whannell’s film premieres this Saturday night at SXSW we also know the film has been given an R-rating by the MPAA for “strong violence, grisly images, and language.”

Synopsis:
A sci-fi thriller set in a near-future when technology controls nearly all aspects of life and centers on a technophobe who avenges his wife’s murder and his own paralysis-causing injury with the help of an experimental computer-chip implant called Stem.
The Blumhouse production is written and directed by Leigh Whannell and stars Logan Marshall-Green (PROMETHEUS) and Betty Gabriel (GET OUT). UPGRADE premieres at SXSW this Saturday night.
