Leslie Grace is very excited for fans to see Batgirl. The actress is finally back in the U.S. after shooting the film for months overseas and she’s sharing a few tidbits about what we can expect.

During a chat with Variety, Grace talked about how “insane” the film is and even revealed that talk of a sequel is already taking place:

“[Laughs] We got to see this first one first. But there’s definitely some talks about what it could be. I’ve seen some of what we’ve shot, obviously in the playback and stuff like that, and it’s insane. We’ve already been talking about where do we take this from here because there’s so much that happens in this film. There are a lot of different themes in the plot that we touch on. It’s not just the action. There’s a love story. There’s this father-daughter relationship. There’s looking at the world through a lens that isn’t just black and white and seeing the color and the spectrum between things.”

Grace also spoke about what it was like seeing Michael Keaton don the Batsuit once again for the film. Judging from the described reaction, it was a pretty exciting experience:

“It was wild for everyone. Our directors were like two little kids. They’re legit Batman nerds openly. He’s Batman, man! I couldn’t even believe that I was sharing space with Batman. I want to say more, but I can’t. It was insane, surreal, incredible. It was the stuff of dreams really.”

Batgirl began shooting back in November so it has been about four months of work on principal photography. HBO Max has yet to confirm a release date for Batgirl but assuming post-production goes as planned, the film SHOULD arrive by the end of the year. In addition to Leslie Grace suiting up as Batgirl, the film also stars J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Jim Gordon and Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Brendan Fraser is also on board as the villain Firefly.

Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah from a screenplay by Christina Hodson, Batgirl will premiere exclusively on HBO Max and won’t receive a theatrical release in a bid to drive more traffic to the streaming service.
