LG blames P.A.

A few days ago Lionsgate revealed the official release date for SAW VII in 3-D (check that shit out HERE), and despite the wishes from the rest of the horror community (or maybe just me), they haven’t backed out of it yet and still appear to be going forward with yet another installment.

I say let the series die because of the crappy performance of SAW VI at the box office, and the fact that the story simply goes nowhere, and has been for quite some time now. But it wasn’t as bad as SAW V, so why the drop in b.o. numbers?

Pretty easy to see that PARANORMAL ACTIVITY is to blame, but it’s nice to hear when Lionsgate itself mans up and admits it. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns had this to say about the fiasco of SAW VI: Burns attributed [SAW VI] to getting “buzz-sawed” at the boxoffice by “Paranormal Activity”… but then goes on to say As long as we make money on it we’ll keep doing this….

SO while it was a flop at the box office, it still made enough dough for Lionsgate to make somewhat of a profit–and will likely make some good numbers when it hits DVD in a couple months. SAW VI buzz-sawed by P.A… there’s something warm and fuzzy about that image. I bet Burns about shit in his hat when those words came out of his mouth–must have stung like a mofo!

But none of it matters because SAW VII is coming October 22, 2010, and in 3-D. I wonder what flick will buzz-saw the seventh installment of the series…
