I don’t know what it is about throwing horror in the hood, or even blasting it into an urban setting, but for the most part, it just doesn’t work for me. Maybe because the setting is a little too real for my taste, or the movies themselves generally suck balls, but one thing’s for sure: I just can’t get into them.
Sure, LEPRECHAUN IN THE HOOD wasn’t meant to win any awards, and neither was BONES or even TALES FROM THE HOOD- but damnit, they could have been better than what they were! Am I wrong here? I don’t know… maybe it’s the setting that just drives me apeshit, but regardless, it looks like Lionsgate is into it, because they just picked up the horror/comedy FRANKENHOOD for wide distribution.
FRANKENHOOD? I haven’t even heard of the flick before today, and yet it’s already wrapped filming and headed into post-production. So what’s the skinny on this flick? Directed by Blaxwell Smart and starring DeRay Davis (above), Charlie Murphy, Jasper Redd and Bob “the Beast” Sapp, FRANKENHOOD revolves around two morgue workers eager to win a local streetball tourney. Their chances are zero to none, until they enlist a large corpse who has been brought back to life by a surly mad scientist.
That’s right! This zombie’s got game! I’ll give it one thing: we sure haven’t seen this before! Yes, we’ve seen a werewolf play ball in TEEN WOLF, but not a zombie! Should be interesting to see what the final product looks like here, as who knows- it could be the funniest movie we’ve seen in years and the best urban horror flick ever made! Ok, I may be overstepping my bounds with that statement. I guess I’m just hoping that it doesn’t suck.
Stick around for more updates on FRANKENHOOD as we hear it!

Classic.
