Now Playing Magazine had a chance to talk with potential OLDBOY remake director Justin Lin about where exactly this supposed American remake is at, and where it’s going. And if he has the gig or not.
Lin, who’s behind this summer’s THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS: TOKYO DRIFT, is campaigning to direct the remake of Park Chan-wook’s epic tale of revenge and bloody murder. Lin wants it more than anyone, and even pitched an un-official idea of what he’d like to do with the story. Here’s just a tid-bit of what he had to say:
There’s been lots of speculation out there, a lot of people trashing me. The terms would have to be right, and that’s an ongoing assessment. You don’t want to make a Xerox copy because the original is so brilliant.
Now how cool is that? A guy who wants to remake a movie, but doen’t want to make an exact replica, and doesn’t want to make a P.O.S. either. From the sounds of it, everything would have to be perfect for him to want to jump on board and helm this puppy. Cool! Sounds like that’s the best situation possible for a remake to even occur (if it needs to at all).
