Some late day news has broken out of Variety, who is reporting that THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT director Peter Cornwell has been tapped to helm a sci-fi thriller entitled PANOPTICON for Lionsgate Entertainment.

Scripted by Craig Rosenberg (THE UNINVITED), PANOPTICON centers on a salesman who receives a pre-recorded message from himself that tells him the world is about to end and only he can save it.

Wow. Talk about a schizoid mind-f*ck!

But from Lionsgate’s standpoint, it makes sense to reunite with Cornwell, whose HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT grossed upward of $55 million. Rosenberg, who set up THE UNINVITED at DreamWorks, will serves as exec producer on PANOPTICON.

And for those wondering, a Panopticon is a type of prison building designed by English philosopher and social theorist Jeremy Bentham in 1785. The concept of the design is to allow an observer to observe (-opticon) all (pan-) prisoners without the prisoners being able to tell whether they are being watched.

Lionsgate looks to put the film in production next year, and plans to retain worldwide rights.
