Platige Films has announced that they have partnered up with the Sean Daniel Company (the upcoming BEN-HUR remake) for a live-action movie based on Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher fantasy book series, which will be the first in a planned film series. The project already has a director in the form of Tomasz Bagiński, who helmed the 2002 animated short THE CATHEDRAL, and created cinematics for the first two installments in The Witcher video game series.

The big screen adaptation will be based on the "themes from the short stories ‘The Witcher’ and ‘Lesser Evil’ from The Last Wish collection," and will follow the adventures of Geralt the witcher, the monster-hunting hero of Sapkowski’s novels and the video games. A film loosely based on Sapkowski's stories titled THE HEXER was released in 2001, which was followed by a television series of the same name that aired in 2002, however the author wasn't happy with how either of them turned out.

It seems another TV series is also in the works though, as, per Platige's announcement, Thania St. John (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Grimm) is working on the script for the movie "as well as on its film and television continuation."

A specific release date for THE WITCHER hasn't been set yet, but the plan is for it to premiere sometime in 2017. Who would you like to see play Geralt?
