Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Jurnee Smollett (Birds of Prey, Lovecraft Country) and Allison Janney (Lost, Mom) have signed on to star in the Netflix thriller Lou, which J.J. Abrams is producing through his company Bad Robot. Underworld: Blood Wars director Anna Foerster is at the helm of the film, working from a screenplay written by American Crime Story producer Maggie Cohn.

Lou will follow

a woman whose daughter is kidnapped, so she teams up with the mysterious older woman next door to pursue the kidnapper — a journey into the wilderness that will test their limits and expose dark and shocking secrets from their pasts.

As usual, Bad Robot is making sure this project is as secretive as possible.

Abrams is producing Lou with Jon Cohen and Hannah Minghella, while Smollett and Janney serve as executive producers with Braden Aftergood and Lindsey Weber.

Given the talent involved, this is definitely one to keep an eye on.
