Louis Leterrier on shortlist to direct Avengers

JoBloJoBlo

I’m not sure how close Marvel is to actually choosing a director for THE AVENGERS but really there shouldn’t be many names to consider. Jon Favreau was obviously the leading candidate but he stepped back and will only produce the film. So who else? While other Avenger character directors like Kenneth Branagh (THOR) and Joe Johnston (CAPTAIN AMERICA) could very well be candidates, the guy at the top of the list very much deserves to be Louis Leterrier.

Leterrier directed the criminally underrated HULK movie and while Hulk may or may not be part of AVENGERS (though I’m hearing he is), he showed he’s got the chops to pull off a difficult comic movie (few movies were more scrutinized than his reboot of the HULK universe). And beyond that, he really wants to direct THE AVENGERS. This should hardly be the only criteria as I’m sure Brett Ratner really wants to direct it as well but Leterrier brings an inherent passion for the material few directors can match. Lucky for us Leterrier says that he’s at least on the shortlist.

While speaking with Ain’t It Cool to promote CLASH OF THE TITANS he said, “I am on the shortlist…I have a great relationship with [Marvel], and I’ve been very vocal to them and everyone else that I am the one to direct it. I loved my time at Marvel. I loved those guys. They’re fantastic.”

You can try to convince me otherwise below but I can’t think of too many better candidates for THE AVENGERS than Leterrier (with the obvious exception of Favreau). Here’s hoping Marvel will make it happen.
