Director Louis Leterrier to replace David Ayer on Bright 2

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

BRIGHT was Netflix's big attempt to prove they too could make star-studded blockbuster films. And it worked! The 90-million dollar modern fantasy film, directed by David Ayer (SUICIDE SQUAD) and starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton as a human and orc cop respectively, apparently did massive, record-breaking business for the streaming service (though Netflix is still secretive on how they got those numbers). Regardless, it was enough to garner a sequel. However, though Ayer was initially signed on to direct the sequel as well, it seems his duties writing and potentially directing THE DIRTY DOZEN remake makes him currently unavailable.

So, according to Deadline, Netflix has reached out to TRANSPORTER 2 and THE INCREDIBLE HULK director Louis Leterrier to potentially direct the sequel, which "sources said…picks up the travails of the odd partnership, but sets it on an international stage." This makes sense, as he was involved in directing all ten episodes of the successful DARK CRYSTAL prequel series for the service. Meanwhile, Ayer is still credited with writing the screenplay, alongside Evan Spiliotopoulos and T.S. Nowlin (ousting original writer Max Landis).

Obviously no release date as of yet but we'll be sure to keep you posted!

But what do you guys think? You fans of BRIGHT? And if so, if Leterrier does get signed, would that be an improvement…or detriment? Either way, sound off below!
