I’ve gotta say right off the bat that I really like the sound and look of this new horror flick that I just heard about from Australia. It’s called THE LOVED ONES and it is making its big premier at the Midnight Madness portion of this year’s Toronto Film Festival. I’m really diggin’ the whole reverse MANDY LANE vibe it’s got going. Up top you will find a pic from the flick and I can’t help but being helplessly drawn to it. There’s just something about a pissed off chick in a prom dress running through a field with a knife that’s… poetic, I guess. Once you read the plot, you follow along better. Observe:
Brent, a 17 year old student, still grieving for his father, declines an invitation to the school formal from Lola, the quietest girl in school. When Lola and her father kidnap Brent he must fight to survive the macabre celebration they have in store for him.
Wow! A FATAL ATTRACTION where the daddy is helping out his psychotic little girl! Nice new twist on the “crazy stalker” genre! LOVED was directed by Sean Byrne and stars Xavier Samuel, Jessica McNamee, Richard Wilson, Victoria Thaine, John Brumpton, and Robin McLeavy. I hope I hear about a U.S. release some time very soon.
