Variety got the heads up today that Rob Lowe, he of the 80s Rat Pack, will star in the sequel to Kevin Bacon’s STIR OF ECHOES, simply titled STIR OF ECHOES: THE DEAD SPEAK for Lionsgate, and I couldn’t be any happier!
Why am I happy? Because ECHOES is one of my favorite horror flicks that was undeservabley looked over because a little movie called THE SIXTH SENSE came out about the same time.
DEAD SPEAK will be written and directed by Ernie Barbarash, the dude who also brought us CUBE ZERO a few years back, and will revolve around a soldier who returns home from a tour of duty in Iraq only to be haunted by visions of the dead.
Ok, maybe not the most excitingly awesome premise to ever come out, but it definitely has promise. And if it retains any of the creepiness that ECHOES had, then it will be well worth a watch. At this point, it almost sounds like a straight to DVD venture, but as Lionsgate is behind the project, and Lowe is starring… who knows, it could hit theaters and kick a lot of ass!
So stay tuned for more info. on THE DEAD SPEAK, which is looking to start filming in Toronto this July.
