Luc Besson’s Valerian reveals new photos, first trailer to come out tomorrow

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

I love Luc Besson, but I'm not as big of a fan of FIFTH ELEMENT as many people seem to be. I love the look, the design, and both Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich were fun in their roles. I just really hated Chris Tucker's character Ruby Rhod (though I'm surprised that's a controversial opinion, as I'll probably find out in the comments), since he just took me out of the movie.

That is to say, while I'm excited for Besson's new sci-fi action romp  VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS – based on a popular French comicbook VALERIAN AND LAURELINE – I'm also cautious. From what we've seen so far, the film seems to have the same epic scope and great design of his first (and to this day only) space epic. But I'm also wary of another Ruby Rhod-type character to Jar Jar it up. Here's hoping we get all the great action, effects, and fun of FIFTH ELEMENT, with a minimum on its more campy aspects. However, if these new stills are anything to go by, it seems like we're in good hands:

There's also a new trailer coming out tomorrow. Here's a tease:

So what about you guys? You excited for another Besson space romp? Sound off below!

VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS, starring Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne, will blast into theaters July 21st, 2017.
