After riding high as the supreme overlord of epic, gut-wrenching gay cowboy romances, Ang Lee has shifted gears ever so slightly with his follow-up LUST, CAUTION and given us something a little less “gay cowboy love” and a little more “World War II-era powerful political figure/nubile ingenue love”. In fact, the official plot synopsis goes a little something like this: “An espionage thriller set in WWII-era Shanghai. Asian cinema icon Tony Leung stars as Mr. Yee, a powerful political figure in 1940s Shanghai. Tang Wei, a rising star in mainland China, makes her feature film debut as Wang Jiazhi, a young woman who gets swept up in a dangerous game of emotional intrigue with Mr. Yee.” Check out the trailer Focus Features recently released onto the internets in deliciously high res Quicktime HERE and in not quite as delicious low res Quicktime HERE. The film opens September 28th in limited release.
