Lycan: Thomas Jane comic book coming from AfterShock in 2022

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Renegade Entertainment, the company actor and former Punisher Thomas Jane runs with Courtney Lauren Penn, is teaming up with AfterShock Comics for a new comic book series called Lycan, based on a story Jane crafted with David James Kelly.

Mike Carey, whose previous comic book credits include Lucifer, X-Men: Legacy, and Ultimate Fantastic Four, will be scripting Lycan, which

takes place in 1777 and centers on a hardened band of international big game hunters returning from Africa when they are shipwrecked off a small British island. In order to earn supplies repair their ship, the men are tasked by Lord Ludgate, ruler of the island, to find the beast that has been eating his subjects — and destroy it.

It sounds a bit like Jane and Kelly may have been inspired by the story of the Beast of Gévaudan when they came up with this. Some kind of man-eating beast terrorized the former province of Gévaudan in south-central France from 1764 to 1767, a true event that also inspired the film Brotherhood of the Wolf.

Set to reach store shelves sometime in the first half of 2022, the initial run of Lycan will consist of six issues. Jane had this to say about the project:

I am beyond excited to be partnering with AfterShock Comics to develop the universe of Lycan. It’s a story I’ve been wanting to tell for a long time and I’m very lucky to have a great team of creators with David and Mike to bring it to life through the upcoming comic book series."

Penn added:

Being a company that prides itself on a maverick creative spirit and transmedia approach to storytelling, we’re beyond excited to segue into the comic world with Lycan, and to work alongside our amazing and like-minded partners at Aftershock Comics. Their expertise and experience will be instrumental in bringing this universe to fans globally."

Jane has co-written comic books like Bad Planet and Alien Pig Farm in the past.
