Lynch builds Empire

David Lynch, love his stuff or just find yourself scratching your head, you have to admit the man has gigantic balls. More proof of that comes down the pike in regards to his latest 3-hour opus INLAND EMPIRE. Uninterested in trimming the running time he has made the decision to self-distribute the flick in the U.S. and Canada.

Like I said – Balls. Pure, Godzilla-sized, hairy cojones!

Now while it’s hard to describe the pic with any degree of clarity or accuracy, here’s the best attempt I could find courtesy of Yahoo News:

“Empire” begins with two interwoven stories of an actress, played by Laura Dern, who is making an onscreen comeback in a Southern melodrama she’s filming called “High in Blue Tomorrows.” But the film soon branches off to follow a third abused and abusive character also played by Dern.

Each plotline deals with issues of betrayal in relationships, but the film soon veers off those tracks as it showcases musical dance sequences and dramatic episodes with actors speaking Polish. Perhaps only Lynch devotees will fully appreciate a monologue that describes a woman with both a hole in her vagina and a pet monkey that “s–ts everywhere.”

Lynch and Dern working together? I’m there, run time be damned. Sure his stuff doesn’t always make sense, but any film fan who means it when they complain about the staid state of Hollywood releases should happily plunk down their cash to watch Lynch’s work.
