Alright! What we have here right now is one fun-sounding, horror-movie-aware slasher with a title that rolls off the tongue like blood off the tip of a blade: MACHETE JOE. I’ve always been a big fan of the name “Joe”. It sounds so plain, but can act as an ideal contrast when companioned with something greater or crazier like, say, a Machete. So what is it exactly about this new flick that just seems to cut the right way? Well, how about the obvious—the plot. Take a look for yourselves:
A group of out-of-work actors decide to take their careers into their own hands by shooting a low-budget horror film, about an urban myth. With only 15 days to shoot their unfinished script, at a remote castle in the desert, getting through the first night becomes a nightmare. As their egos begin to surface so do the dead bodies.
Like it? I hope so. I don’t see how any genre fan couldn’t be at least a little intrigued. A castle in the desert?! Egocentric actors shooting a horror flick?! An urban myth?! The flick was directed by first-timer Sasha Krane from a script by Gordon Greene. It stars Ernie Hudson (yes, Ghostbusters, that’s Winsten Zeddemore), Erica Gimpel, Austin Stoker, Gwen McGee, Paul Campbell, Art Evans, Monique Barajas, and Virginia Newcomb. JOE is currently in post-production.
