Major reshoots for Doug Liman’s Chaos Walking will likely push release back

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Reshoots are pretty much a given on any big-budget feature, whether they last for days, weeks, or months, but in the case of CHAOS WALKING, Doug Liman's upcoming adaptation of Patrick Ness' best-selling YA novel, those reshoots will likely push the release date back.

According to THR, CHAOS WALKING is set to undergo significant reshoots, but, due to just how in demand both Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley are, those reshoots may not take place until the end or this year or even early 2019. Tom Holland will be busy filming the SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING sequel and Daisy Ridley will be hard at work on STAR WARS: EPISODE IX, meaning that CHAOS WALKING will need to take a back seat for the time being. THR's sources say that the reshoots are expected to last two or three weeks, and with Lionsgate having previously slated the release of the film for March 1, 2019, it's very likely that the studio will be forced to push it back. To that, Lionsgate had no comment. It's the hope of Lionsgate that the film will launch a new franchise which can hold its own against the steady stream of comic-book movies, sequels, and remakes, so getting CHAOS WALKING off on the right foot is likely a big priority.

Consisting of "The Knife of Never Letting Go," "The Ask and the Answer," and "Monsters of Men," Patrick Ness' series takes place in a dystopian world where all women have been killed by a virus and all of the remaining living creatures can hear each other's thoughts in a stream of images, words, and sounds called Noise. Knowing that they're hiding something from him, a young man (Tom Holland) is forced to flee his town with his loyal dog as his only companion. While out in the wilderness, the pair stumble across a mysterious sight, a girl (Daisy Ridley) who may be the key to unlocking the New World's many layered secrets.
