Apparently back in 2008 Mandalay Pictures and producer Mark Canton (300) got together and decided what the world needed was a big screen adaptation of the demonic graphic novel RAMAYAN 3392 AD. Because that’s exactly what Hollywood needs – another graphic novel adaptation.
Well at the time they had pegged John Collee to adapt the comic into a screenplay for the big screen but it seems Mandalay weren’t happy with Collee’s work because according to Variety they’ve recently decide to tap Nic Kelman with the job, a whopping three years later! And that’s where things stand now.
RAMAYAN 3392 AD comes from creators Gotham Chopra and Sharad Devarajan and was first published back in 2006 by Liquid Comics. It’s rundown reads a little something like this:
The story primarily deals with the last kingdom of humans who are fighting demons (Asuras) to survive. The series’ prime protagonist is the human prince Rama who, alongside his brothers, aims to bring down the demon-lord Ravan.
Chopra and Devarajan are staying close to their work with executive producer credits on the film while Canton and Mandalay’s Cathy Schulman serve as producers. Former Mandalay executive Scarlett Lacey will also be producing in some capacity.
