Tim Burton‘s delightfully chaotic Mars Attacks!, which is a comedic adaptation of the Topps pulp trading cards, would come out in 1996 — the same year as Independence Day. It can strangely be tied to the Roland Emmerich action blockbuster as an “alien invasion” companion piece of that year. I remember when the Denis Villeneuve sci-fi drama Arrival was released, I happened to revisit Mars Attacks! the same week and found it to actually be a complementary companion piece for that movie! Both Arrival and Mars Attacks! not only deal with alien visitors, but they also show how important communication between two alien species is and how badly things can turn if language isn’t translated properly.
Ok, ok. I may be reaching here, but the real point is…Mars Attacks! is coming to 4K Blu-ray!

Blu-ray.com has reported on Warner Bros. announcing the new physical media upgrade for the star-studded comedy. The sci-fi comedy stars Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close, Annette Bening, Pierce Brosnan, Martin Short, Sarah Jessica Parker, Natalie Portman, Pam Grier, Jim Brown, Rod Steiger, Tom Jones, Michael J. Fox and Danny DeVito. The new UHD remaster of the film is set to hit retailers on August 11.
