We all knew that Martin Scorsese’s SHUTTER ISLAND was going to be rated R, but the official word hadn’t come from the MPAA… until now. And folks, let’s just say that Scorsese didn’t disappoint!
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, and Max Von Sydow, SHUTTER ISLAND is based on the best-selling thriller by Dennis Lehane, a tale of haunting mystery and psychological suspense that unfolds entirely on a fortress-like island housing a hospital for the criminally insane.
After being pushed back from an October release to a February release, the MPAA finally go their grubby little hands on the film and slapped SHUTTER ISLAND with a hearty R rating for disturbing violent content, language and some nudity.
What more could you ask for in an R rating? Sounds like it has it all, though I’m frightened to think that the ‘some nudity’ is not that of Michelle Williams, but that of a couple of real nasty mental patients, probably under torture or some form of duress. Yikes! But no worries, this thing still sounds like a lot of fun, and I’ll totally be there come February 19, 2010.
