Mary Elizabeth Winstead hasn’t heard anything about a possible return to play Huntress in a Birds of Prey follow-up but, given the fact that a Black Canary project is moving forward at HBO Max with her co-star Jurnee Smollett, she would be open to the possibility of playing the character again.

Winstead was speaking with ComicBook.com and she opened up about any potential sequels or spin-offs for her DCEU character. The actress hasn’t been asked to return just yet but she seems happy to return if the opportunity presented itself. Here is what she had to say:

“I’m down for anything, really. I think Huntress is such a fun character, I don’t know if there’s any plans in the future to continue that version of Huntress, because there’s a few different versions out there, in the comic books there’s different versions, so I don’t know if that’s what’s in store. But I’m happy I got the chance to do at least one iteration of her and if that iteration continues then I’d love to be a part of it, but we’ll see what happens.”

Winstead co-starred alongside Margot Robbie, Jurnee Smollett, Ella Jay Basco, and Rosie Perez in Birds of Prey, a DCEU effort that arrived last year right before the pandemic shuttered movie theaters. The film was a bright spot with critics as far as DCEU efforts are concerned with a 79% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes but fan reaction was a bit more polarizing. The film made a little over $200 million globally which was a bit of an underperformance but some of its run was affected by the pandemic so it possibly could’ve done a little better had that interference not occurred.

Winsted seemed to win fans over as the socially awkward vigilante so I don’t see any reason why she can’t come back if they would like to explore her character more. Maybe she can pop up in the Black Canary project since she already has a relationship with Smollett’s Dinah Lance? There are some possibilities here if they wish to explore them.
