Matt Bomer joins Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt in The Magnificent Seven

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

As a child, THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN was my first exposure to the Western genre and even today it remains one of my all-time favourite films. It's a great story, albeit a simple one, which owes much of its success to its excellent casting. Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn, and others; a hell of a cast to be sure.

Antoine Fuqua's upcoming remake of THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN sure has some big boots to fill when it comes to matching that cast but I believe they're well on their way. Today THR announced that Matt Bomer is the latest addition to the all-star cast which already includes Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Wagner Moura, Haley Bennett, and Jason Momoa. Bomer will play the husband of Haley Bennett's character, a man who tries to stand up to the villain.

The new version’s story kicks off when a woman (Bennett) hires a disparate group of gunslingers to protect her town from rampaging bandits that are led by a robber baron.

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN should begin shooting soon and is aiming for a 2016 release. You can check out Matt Bomer in the upcoming MAGIC MIKE XXL which opens on July 1, 2015.
