Matthew McConaughey talks life and death in The Sea of Trees trailer

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Arthur Brennan (Matthew McConaughey) treks into Aokigahara, known as The Sea of Trees (that’s the title!), which is a mysterious and dense forest at the base of Japan’s Mount Fuji where people go to commit suicide. On his journey, he encounters Takumi Nakamura (Ken Watanabe), a Japanese man who has lost his way after attempting suicide. The two men begin a journey of reflection and survival in this trailer for Gus Van Sant‘s THE SEA OF TREES.

Alright, so we don’t have the feel-good movie of the year on our hands with this one. Still, all of the lead actors are fantastic. McConaughey, in particular, I could probably watch just walk around a forest for 2 hours and still be into it. With that said, I hope there’s a little bit more to it than that as far as this movie is concerned.

THE SEA OF TREES will open in theaters on August 26, 2016.
