A listing in the latest edition of Production Weekly indicates that Netflix is moving ahead with a sequel to their 2017 release THE BABYSITTER – and that the project is at such an advanced stage of development that filming could begin in just two months.

THE BABYSITTER director McG is listed as director of THE BABYSITTER 2, working from a screenplay written by Dan Lagana, who was showrunner on the Netflix series American Vandal. Netflix cancelled American Vandal after two seasons, but apparently they still have a good working relationship with Lagana.

Written by Brian Duffield, the first THE BABYSITTER follows

a young boy and his babysitter on a night where things go very wrong, with the boy learning a few lessons about life, love and murder along the way.

The film stars Judah Lewis as 12-year-old Cole and Samara Weaving as Bee, the babysitter herself. Bee seemed to be the perfect pal when she was hanging out with Cole, discussing Star Trek and ALIEN, dancing to Foghat, and acting out scenes from BILLY JACK, but she turned out to have some dark, deadly secrets.

There's no word if Lewis and/or Weaving will be returning for the sequel, but there are going to be a lot of disappointed people if Weaving doesn't come back. She is THE BABYSITTER, they have to have her in THE BABYSITTER 2.

If THE BABYSITTER 2 does indeed begin filming in October, we should be hearing more about it very soon. I thought the first movie was highly entertaining, so I'm interested in seeing how a sequel will go.
